Benjamin David DaCunha asks: Looking for my first saltwater boat. I had a Jon boat growing up bass fishing up in Rhode Island. I want something for inshore saltwater fishing that isn’t too crazy or expensive. I am just getting into it. Would like something for at least 2 people, so no solo skiffs. Would really like something with a casting deck, trolling motor, or push pole deck. Want to spend under 5K. Any suggestions? Location is St. Pete.

I started with the 12′ Jon boat that I brought with me from Rhode Island. Anything 14-17′ shallow (not micro) draft will do. A live well is useful too. 5k will give you a good range of choices. Look for something that will handle 1-2′ chop without destroying your kidneys or soaking you all the time.

Awesome. Originally from Warwick, then lived in Cumberland for 10 years. Been in Florida almost 5 years now.

Get a little Carolina skiff with 5k u shouldn’t have a problem finding one for about 3k n money left over to do ur own touches n there good for inshore
