Chadwick Bruce Felmet asks: My project boat, 16′ Canyon River welded aluminum. Looking for suggestions/pros/cons on the decks and flooring. I’m torn between carpet and hard surface. Was going to reinforce the front and back decks with 3/8″ marine plywood. Deck the floor with 1/2″ marine. Carpet or just grip coat the whole thing? I like the ease of washing off hard surface, but the feel and quiet of carpet. Thanks for any help.

Cool looking hull. Mine is plywood covered and then painted but it’s rotting out and needs replacement. If you fish salt carpet might not be a good idea.

All depends on your intended use ? Fresh water carpet is great salt water then use aluminum then coat them ! Check out my page Junk Yard Boats it may give you some ideas !

I’ll be fishing salt and fresh, so I guess I better plan for the worst.

use aluminum if you can afford it !

I’ve done builds both ways depending on customers preference !
