Chris Lacy asks: Question for the jack plate guys, just got a tunnel jon with a 20hp, seller told me it will get about 22-23mph with a stock alum. prop. Has about an inch that I can raise up to get cav plate even with tunnel. Thought I heard some where that putting a little set back/lift would help a little on top end. Any truth to that? Thanks

less motor in the water = less drag

Yes you will gain a little top end due to less drag but it’s not going to be much

Pretty much without exception on any boat, for every 10 inches you mount the motor back from the transom you can raise it 1 inch. This is due to the water rising as it leaves contact with the hull.
